READ OUR FULL MANIFESTO

This is a manifesto for change, built on hope. It is rooted in a foundation of “KNOW tech, not NO tech”.

We are calling for three specific changes that would make the digital world safer:

1. Tech built and designed For Us.

The wellbeing and developmental needs of young people should be a primary consideration. This should be achieved by prohibiting addictive design features for under-16s.

2. Digital literacy for all.

Young people are currently inhabiting a world they are not equipped for. Digital literacy education would provide young people with the skills to safely navigate the digital world.

3. Minimum age of 16 for use of AI companions.

AI companions are being marketed to children with no safeguards and little regulation. A minimum age of 16 would protect developing minds from the harm associated.

These three changes are designed to be implemented simultaneously, complementing each other, to achieve a digital environment For Us.

For example, digital literacy for all young people would ensure that by the age of 16, when young people could use AI companions, they are able to do so in a positive way.

Who we are

Today, young people are facing an unprecedented challenge: an online world built without their wellbeing in mind.

We believe it is time to take a stand, to push for a world where tech is created in conjunction with young people, rather than at their expense. We represent the voices of millions of young people who refuse to accept that future generations will grow up in a digital world that mistreats them. Like so many other young people, we believe in an online world where young people are safe, empowered and respected.

We were founded by young people for young people: from digital safety advocates, to mental health champions, to existing organisations championing youth voice.

For Us bridges the gap between grassroots organisations and policy reform, working with key stakeholders, tech companies and educators to effect meaningful, youth-led change.

We are working towards system-level change; a digital world which prioritises the wellbeing of young people instead of brushing their concerns aside.

Our Youth Leaders

Young people deserve to grow up in a world where online platforms are safe, ethical, and accountable.

Why We Exist

From addictive design to unregulated AI, young people are facing an online world that wasn’t built with us in mind.

It’s time to take a stand. Let’s build a future where tech is made with young people, not at our expense.

This time, build and design it For Us.

1. Manipulative Design

Social media platforms use psychological tricks to keep us hooked: infinite scroll, autoplay, streaks, and algorithmic recommendations that keep us online longer than we want to be. It's exploitative and it's by design.

2. Privacy & Data Exploitation

Our data is collected, tracked, and monetised. Young users often don’t understand how much is taken from them or how it’s used.

3. Algorithmic Bias

AI systems shape our feeds, recommendations, and search results. But these systems often reinforce bias, spread misinformation, and operate without transparency.

4. AI + Emerging Tech

AI is reshaping the digital world faster than policy can keep up. Without clear standards, AI risks amplifying harm, spreading deepfakes, targeting young users with manipulative content, and making harmful decisions without human oversight.
